about erin
Erin Desmond is an artist, Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and birthworker with a passion for creating encounters that support healing, movement and connection. She has been making art, building community, and intensely aware of her bodily experience for her whole life.
After home school and community college, Erin studied art at UCLA and Yale where she began research around touch and created interactive performances. Following a near-death experience of getting run over by a car, her sense of presence and gratitude became heightened and her tolerance for constrictive social systems lessened. She knew she needed to help people heal and her life’s work must stretch outside of traditional art world structures.
Erin began an inner journey of deeper sensing, expanding and unlearning. She has since completed the three year SEP certification training at Somatic Experiencing International, the Birth Warrior Project at the Indie Birth Midwifery School and the Peristeam Facilitator certification training at the Peristeam Hydrotherapy Institute, and continues her studies of healing modalities. Her study of healing modalities is ongoing, as is her internal exploration and renegotiation to heal her own trauma, attachment wounds, cultural conditioning, implicit bias and white body supremacy.
For the past seven years Erin has been working with people in one-on-one somatic healing sessions and for the past two years has integrated birthwork into her healing + art practice. Holding the belief that everything we need is already inside us, her greatest joy is in supporting humans through their unique processes of unfolding.
Erin loves to swim in the ocean at night, move her body in spirals, celebrate with her large extended family, take pictures with flash, collaborate with her partner Aaron, and feel the Spirit moving her from the inside out.
